I started Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in December 2021 after three months of mental gymnastics and hesitation. With a college tennis and competitive powerlifting background, Jiu Jitsu was something completely out of my comfort zone. With that being said, when I made it through the door and met Professor Brandon, I was kicking myself for not making the leap sooner. After my first class (despite somehow managing to not even do jumping jacks correctly) I knew I’d found something special in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and in particular Core Academy. Over the next year, the physical changes that ensued (dropping about 50lbs from 230lbs to 180lbs) were somehow an afterthought compared to the renewed mental energy and bonds formed.

Along the way, I started helping coach the kids program. Watching their skills, attitude and confidence improve on a daily basis is a truly rewarding experience. Like many others who have embarked on a Jiu Jitsu journey, I can honestly and proudly say that it’s been a life changing experience!
